How does “Random Design” (RD) relate to the popular idea of “Intelligent Design”(ID)? |

A: |
 |
“Random Design” (RD) is a more intelligent “Intelligent Design” (ID). While both
ideas seek to keep God in the overall picture, unfortunately, in my view, ID as it is
popularly expressed, will actually have the exact opposite long term effect – slowly,
but surely eroding the case for a Creator and also the credibility of those who espouse
this view.
The primary weakness of ID is that it draws arbitrary lines in the sand by
inserting God into those places of current scientific mystery, claiming that the mystery
proves the need for a designer. The hazard of this approach is that as time and
scientific understanding march relentlessly on, the mystery, and thus the apparent
need for a designer, gradually fades away. Random Design places no such limits upon
the Creator.
Instead, it openly acknowledges all that science discovers to be true and
verifiable, and simply attributes it to the Creator. It grants to scientists everything
they claim to want - to study science free from religious intrusion. But it also provides
people of faith the assurance that there will always be a permanent place at the table for
a Creator. |
