Devout, well-meaning people of faith recognize that when
scientists make definitive pronouncements regarding ultimate causes and origins of
life that exclude God, they have stepped outside of legitimate scientific boundaries
Random Design should be embraced by people of faith because this model establishes a
permanent place at the table for the possibility of a Creator-God – a uniquely
privileged position that science can never legitimately challenge.
The real beauty of approaching the science education discussion with the Random Design
model is that by granting each side precisely what they claim to want, the only legitimate
reason for either group to reject the model is if their real agenda is different than their
claimed agenda. For example, if the real goal of the scientific community is to teach and
promote atheism, (as suspected by their opponents) it will automatically be exposed by
their rejection of the model. Likewise, if the real goal of the conservative Christians is
to instill a specific type of religious belief, such as creationism, (as suspected by
their opponents) it also will be exposed by their rejection of the model.
Hopefully, the Random Design model will soon reach the point of serious discussion in
public school board meetings. The integrity and responses of each group will indeed
be most revealing! I look forward to the opportunities to help and serve in this
important arena.
